Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at lifetimeeye@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes. We prefer that you schedule an optical appointment when shopping for glasses. This allows us time to review your insurance benefits in advance and give you an unrushed appointment, one-on-one attention.

Most glasses are ready in about two weeks. Some single-vision glasses may be available sooner when lenses are in stock.

In some cases, yes. We stock many single-vision lenses in-office, which means we can often help you the same day.

A full eye exam evaluates both your vision and the overall health of your eyes. This includes checking your prescription, eye pressure, eye muscle function, and internal eye health.

During a comprehensive exam, we either dilate your eyes or take a retinal image to allow the doctor to fully examine the back of the eye.

Retinal imaging using the Optos system allows the doctor to closely examine the back of the eye. This service typically results in an out-of-pocket cost and is not covered by most routine vision insurance or state insurance plans.

Yes. Eye exams can reveal signs of medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.

If a medical condition is identified or monitored, the exam may be billed to medical insurance rather than vision insurance. Vision insurance often does not cover medical diagnosis codes.

Medical insurance may help cover exam-related charges, but coverage varies by plan and is not guaranteed. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your benefits.

Yes. Self-pay options are available.

If you experience eye pain, flashes of light, new or sudden floaters, redness, or sudden changes in vision, please contact our office right away to schedule an urgent visit.

Yes. More than 50 percent of exams at Lifetime Eye Care are medically related. We routinely evaluate and manage conditions such as diabetic eye disease, cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and other medical eye concerns.

Most patients should have a comprehensive eye exam every one to two years. Some conditions may require more frequent visits.

Yes. School vision screenings are limited and do not replace a comprehensive eye exam. We strongly recommend scheduling a full eye exam to properly evaluate your child’s vision and eye health and determine if treatment or correction is needed.

Yes. Medical records or notes from your doctor may be faxed to 785-364-5473.

Yes. For urgent eye concerns after hours, please call 785-364-5000 to be connected with our on-call eye doctor.

We accept many vision plans, including EyeMed, VSP, Vision Care Direct, and Superior plans. We do not participate with Davis Vision or Spectera vision plans. We are in network with many, but not all, medical insurance plans. Please check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage and network status.

Vision insurance is typically used for routine, healthy eye exams with no medical concerns and for eyewear materials. Medical insurance is used for office visits and medical eye exams involving diagnosis, treatment, or monitoring of eye conditions. If a medical condition is identified during your exam, the visit may be billed to medical insurance.

Out-of-pocket costs may apply due to unmet deductibles, co-insurance, limited coverage, or plan exclusions. Charges can also occur if we are not in network with your plan, if a vision plan cannot be used due to a medical diagnosis, or for services such as retinal imaging (Optos), which is not included in most vision or state insurance plans.

If you know your vision insurance does not apply or you have a high deductible that has not been met, self-pay options may be more cost-effective. Self-pay options allow discounted rates at the time of your exam. In some cases, we may be able to coordinate medical and vision benefits, but this is not typical.
